4-Butylresorcinol also referred to as 4-n-butylresorcinol, belongs to the resorcinol’s family. It has the ability to lighten and brighten the skin by inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase, the rate-limiting melanogenic enzyme.

Hyperpigmentation is a common condition that affects the skin. It can occur because of aging or disorders like melasma. Enzyme tyrosinase is the most important regulator of melanin synthesis.
4-n-Butylresorcinol inhibits directly the activities of tyrosinase and tyrosinase-related protein-1 (TRP-1), which are enzymes necessary for the production of melanin pigment and thus inhibits melanin production.
Q. Is 4-butylresorcinol safe?
It is found that in addition to being highly effective as a depigmenting agent, it is very well tolerated with extremely rare cases of skin sensitivity. Further, it can also be used during pregnancy.
