What is Brilliant Blue FCF (FD&C Blue No.1)
The brilliant blue FCF dye, often known as Blue 1, is a synthetic organic chemical that is categorized as a triarylmethane dye. It is referred to by the E number E133. It is one of the oldest color additives that has been approved by the FDA, and its primary application is as a blue colorant in processed foods, pharmaceuticals, nutritional supplements, and cosmetics. Uses
- Brilliant Blue FCF is primarily used as a colorant. It is an approved food colorant in USA and EU.
- Being an approved dye in the US, it is used in cotton candy, ice-creams, drinks and dairy products for coloring purposes. Additionally, it is utilized in soaps, shampoos, mouthwash, and other hygiene and cosmetic products.
- It is widely employed as a water tracing agent.
- Brilliant blue FCF is also being utilized in hemostatic medical devices owing to its nontoxic properties.
